An Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) system is one that detects that the vehicle is about to crash into an object ahead and automatically applies the brakes in an attempt to avoid the collision.

To do this, it uses a range of sensors to determine what’s in front of the car, along with the movement (or in some cases the anticipated movement) of those objects.

AEB systems are normally combined with a Crash Warning System (CWS) to try and warn the driver before a crash becomes imminent.
